SCHEME OF THE EXAMINATION
There shall be three papers, all of which must be taken. Papers 1 and 2 shall be a composite paper to be taken at one sitting.
Paper 1 shall consist of forty multiple choice questions of 1 hour duration for 40 marks. Paper 2 shall be a structured essay test comprising four questions out of which candidates will answer any three in 1 hour for 60 marks.
Paper 3 shall be a practical test involving the production of an upholstery article. The paper shall be of 2- hour duration and carry 100 marks.
Alternatively, Council may consider assessing candidates using the alternative to practical work method, in the event of constraints on requisite facilities. In that case, the paper shall test knowledge of practical processes, techniques in upholstery and safe practices in the workshop. The paper shall still be of 2-hour duration and carry 100 marks.
CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT
Continuous assessment of candidates shall include marks obtained from three finished projects.
PRACTICAL ACTIVITIES
Practical activities shall include:
(i) Design and construction of framework, padding and covering upholstery work;
(ii) Maintenance and repair of upholstery tools, machines and articles.
